COUNT THE COST

COUNT THE COST – LUKE 14:25-35.

V.25. And there went great multitudes with him, and he turned, and said unto them,

V.26.If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

V.27. And whosoever doth not bare his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

V.28. For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it?

V.29. Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him.
V.30 Saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish.

V.31. Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

V.32. Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an embassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

V.33. So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

V.34. Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

V.35. It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Matt.5:3. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. When we have been convicted by the word of God and have been broken and filled with contrition (Ps.51:17; Matt.21:42-44).

V.4. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. We struggle with our sinful life and we weep, we mourn, when we realize it is because of our sins that Jesus went to the cross. We are comforted by His Word.

V.5. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. We realize that we cannot add one cubit to our standing before God (Matt.6:27). Of ourselves we can do nothing. We need to pray daily, seeking God’s help. We know by faith that we inherit the new heaven and the new earth(Rev.21;2Peter3;Rom.4:13,16;Ps.37.etc.).

V.6. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. We constantly seek more wisdom and revelation of the knowledge of God (Eph.1:17) which gives us greater understanding and fills up our unspeakable joy. Isaiah 55 for those who seek after righteousness. Isaiah 65 is portraying judgment on natural Israel and blessings on God’s true people, Christians.

V.7. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. When we have realized how much God has forgiven us – when we did not even know him – we cannot but desire to show mercy to others when they need help. We do it as unto God by faith and he blesses us in his time.

V.8. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.(See Heb.12:14). We are separated from the things of this world – i.e. holy, sanctified. We walk in the peace of the gospel, striving to bring truth, not contention. Having a simple desire, ‘God, I want to be where you want me to be – regardless of the cost.’

V.9. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Then we are bringing the gospel of peace in Jesus Christ where ever God sends us – whatever the cost… can you pay it?

V.10. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. This is where the cost comes in.

V.11. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsly, for my sake. (The cost)

V.12.Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets which were before you.
Now you can receive the next bit..

V.13.Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden underfoot of men. Salt does two things. It stings when applied to a wound (sin). It preserves that which needs to be preserved, and adds to the savour (taste). The word of God preserves us who are called of God and saved. As we grow in the word, so our speech is salted with the word of God in every situation.

V.14. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. We, as true children of God, are the city of God. Jesus is the hill, the mountain of God. If we are the light as he is the light then we cannot be hid. How can there be ‘secret christians’. We preach openly in the highways, byways, lanes and along the hedges and in market places. We will be either received or killed, or anywhere inbetween. But the gospel is not hid, nor am I ashamed of the gospel, whatever the cost. This is the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 12:17. And the dragon (Satan, that old serpent) was wroth with the woman (God’s true church in the wilderness), and went to make war with the remnant of her seed ( the endtime Christians), which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 2:14-17. Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and make manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.

V.15. For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
V.16. To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

V.17. (spiritual perfection as ordained by God) For we are not as many (Matt.7:13,21,22,), which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in (of) Christ. 2Timothy 2:12, and, 3:12.

To all who read this, I must urge you, because we really are just about done with this planet – and our only concern really should be ‘what comes next’, that you examine yourselves. We all need the mirror of the word before us.

11Corinthians 13:5. Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except (unless) ye be reprobates (unsaved)?

Matthew 10:22; 24:13; Mark 13:13. ‘…but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.’

Luke 19:13….’…occupy till I come.’

May God bless you as you diligently seek the Lord and search the scriptures with all your heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
